Keep Dropping Those Nets

"I just can't do what you are asking me to do Lord.”

“I have tired that so many times and it’s just not working."

“Do what?!? Are You crazy?!”

Have you ever had those thoughts or conversations with God?

Jesus told Simon,
“Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked all night and haven’t caught anything.” Luke 5:4-5a

In other words… “we’ve tried that already and it’s not working.”

Isn’t it interesting that the same fears that people had then, we have today?

“Deep water? Persevere? Keep rowing? Keep dropping my net? But that hasn’t worked up until now…”

The process of maturing, growing, recovering from past wounds and hurts is difficult and seems like too deep of waters to enter, but when we follow what He asks us to do in His timing, we will see the fruit in our life He is promising us.

We see Simon come to this revelation in verse 5b, “’But’ because you say so, I will let down my nets.”

When we step out in faith and not allow feelings of fear to hold us back, then we experience His blessings unlike ever before. The peace, joy and purpose we find when we surrender all those anxieties to Him, will bring a ‘boat’ overflowing with His goodness. (see vs. 6)

If you are having doubts about continuing in the process and instructions Christ has given, hang on, His way is better, He is better. Maybe today your conversation with God is “but….because You say so Lord, I will do it.”

He desires to overflow your heart with so much that your net literally breaks.

Now that’s a good thought to chew on this morning.

Have a great day!

Rodney
