Thriving Through Change

Image
By Susan Nichols, Fellowship Bible Church Rogers Celebrate Recovery Devotional Team writer, 1/29/20 “ Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in His suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing His glory when it is revealed to all the world .”  (1 Peter 4:12, NLT) I started doing my own yard work last summer and taught myself how to use the leaf blower. I know it’s not that difficult to use, but I did have to figure out the technique. The first time I tried, the leaves blew all over the place—into the air, onto the car, and up against the garage—before settling on the ground again. As I watched them, I thought about how the Lord works. Life can be calm, but then chaos comes and everything is topsy-turvy. Eventually, things become calm once more. The last year-and-a-half of my life has been full of change. Lots

A Servant’s Heart

By Carl Kimbro, Fellowship Bible Church Rogers Celebrate Recovery Devotional Team writer, 1/22/20 Do I live to serve, or to be served? How I answer this question determines what my relationship with Christ is really like. Celebrate Recovery provides me with an opportunity to answer this question. CR is a place where broken hurting people come to find healing through a relationship with Christ. But when I first came to CR, serving was the furthest thing from my mind. I wanted healing and hope, but I didn’t know at the time how serving others would be a major part of that. When I first came to CR, I was more concerned about my situation than that of others. I didn’t see the hurt and pain of others around me. I saw only my own need and the desire to do whatever it took to solve my problems. I wanted my pain and struggles to go away. Service was not even on my radar. I was too tired and worn out by the chaos in my life. But as time passed and I began to grow in my relations

Strong Tower

By Kareena Holloway, Fellowship Bible Church, Rogers, Celebrate Recovery Ministry T.E.A.M Women's Encourager Coach So how's your week going?  We're almost to Friday!  For me, Friday can’t get here soon enough.  For some of us, this has been a hard week. Some have faced certain hardships and losses.  Some of us are leading a step study and others are preparing for upcoming Step Study's to start up.  Those things along with our personal business that we all have to attend to on a daily basis might make us all feel…overwhelmed at times. The Lord reminds all of us that when we are feeling overwhelmed, that we can and should hand it over to Him.  I love how in Proverbs 18:10 we are reminded that the name of the Lord is a strong tower and that the righteous run to it and are safe!   So brothers and sisters, my encouragement  for you this week is to lean on the truths of God, to reach out to your support team, to stay in God's word through worship songs,

What's Your Destination?

Image
By Carl Kimbrow, Fellowship Bible Church Rogers Celebrate Recovery Devotional Team writer, 1/8/20 On life’s road we all take detours. Sometimes our detours are caused by things we can’t control like sickness, injuries and financial setbacks. Sometimes it’s self-inflicted by things like addiction or other sinful behavior. When we hit a detour, the solution seems simple. We work hard to try to get our life pointed back towards our destination where we think everything will be alright, and that once we reach that destination, our journey will be over. But, what I’ve found in that situation is that the journey isn’t over, it’s just starting! When I first came to Celebrate Recovery, I wanted freedom from my sin and struggles. My detour was a rocky road full of potholes that I wanted to get off as fast as possible. Over the first few months, the potholes became fewer in number, and the road signs pointed to an exit ahead. That brought a feeling of relief. If I could reach the
