How's Your Soul?

“How is your soul”? Chip Jackson often asks this same question. It’s an important question and one that
we need to think about.
Every person was created for a relationship with God. A lost world who ignores God does not believe
this. So they search for something to fill the aching in their soul. They try finding it in relationships, jobs,
money, drugs, alcohol, and a host of other things. They never find happiness, and continually search for
that “thing” that will bring peace.
But what about Christians who believe in God? Do we have true fellowship with God, or do we also look
for ways to fill the ache in our soul outside of God? Most of us could say we use “things” to fill that ache.
The good news is it doesn’t have to be that way, and a healthy prayer life is one of the easiest ways to
have a close relationship with God.
- Be Humble and Seek God in Prayer
God wants us to be obedient to Him. He told the Israelites in 2 nd Chronicles 7:13 “If my
people who are called by my name will humble themselves and seek my face and turn
from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and restore their
land. The key words here are humble and seek.
We are to approach God with a respectful, modest and humble attitude. Remember
that He is the Creator and we are the creation. We are to approach him with the respect
he deserves as the Creator.
- Be focused God and have a thankful Heart
Colossians 4:2 says “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful
heart.
Sometimes we pray for a long time and get no answer. Faith shouldn’t die because the
answer comes slowly. That delay may be God’s way of working His will in our life. When
you feel tired of praying, know that God is still present, always listening, and always
answering us. Maybe not in the way we want, but in the ways he knows is best for us.
- Never Stop Praying.
Paul gave this command in 1 st Thessalonians 5:17: “Never stop praying”. God loves the
prayers of the righteous. He loves the fellowship with Him and our souls need that
relationship with Him. When we give up on prayer our souls suffer because we lose that
close relationship with God we achieve through prayer.
Never forget God loves us and he created us for fellowship with him. Our souls long for it. When we are
out of fellowship with God, our souls suffer and we use other “things” to fill that longing in our souls.
Those things can never substitute for a relationship with God. And if we want that relationship with God
our souls long for, then we need to take Paul’s advice and “Never stop praying”.
