Faith Like Job

Written by Jenni Moon, Fellowship Bible Church Celebrate Recovery Devotional Team, 10/2/19

As Christians we are taught that faith as small as a mustard seed is all that is necessary for God to move mountains on our behalf. As humans we can often feel that we require faith as large as an ocean in order to survive our hardest days. Our questions, 'Why, God?", "Where are you, God?", "What have I done to deserve this, God?" are futile because the answer is as simple as the mustard seed.

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1 NIV)

If our lives were never met with discomfort and trials, what reason would we have to turn to our creator for help? Why would we praise Him? Why would we worship and draw near to Him?

As a parent we would never wish that our children endure pain. We are delighted in watching them play, explore, learn, and grow just as our Heavenly Father delights in us. (See Psalm 149:4 NIV) However, when they scrape their knee or pinch their finger, or experience their first heartbreak we also swell with love as they come to us for relief and assurance. God desires that we run to Him.

When God allowed Satan to hurt Job, God knew that Jobs faith would see him through. Satan caused a storm in Job’s life, but Job remained faithful, and as a result was blessed double and became a blessing to others. (See Job 42:12 NIV) Storms will come in our lives. It is through those storms and hurts that God can lead us to be a blessing to others. Our stories can become a survival guide for those who are still out there hurting. In the same way that Job’s story is meant to be a survival guide for those who abide in the word. God never wastes a hurt!  Have faith as small as a mustard seed, and He will see you through!
"For we walk by faith, not sight!"
